Tron - rh

10 - TRON

Tenth anniversary drawing.   Yah!

I was at a comedy club on the weekend and saw a cartoony poster of a character holding up a sign.  I was going to ape it but in the end defaulted to my 'comic book' style.  The pose is still similar though.

It's an ok drawing but the angle of the hips and shoulders were suppose to contrast more and mirror the angle of the disc she is holding.  That's not apparent when I look at the drawing ... and I drew it!  The rough sketch of this piece has a lot more POP to it but with a lot of my 'finished' pieces, it got lost in transition.  Something else to work on definitely.

Robot - rh

Ash- Robot

9 - Humanoid Robot

This is more of a concept than anything else.  It actually looks quite cheesy with the text and such.

Metropolis was a movie I saw when I was a kid and it freaked me out.  The female robot in it was both frightening and sexy.  She's really the only part of the movie that I remember.  It could have been a raucous comedy for all I know.

This piece is one of the quicker drawings I've done on this blog.  The proportions are way off and when I get lazy, I tend to draw lines with no rhyme or reason which accounts for all the squiggly 'metallic' effect.  Horrible.

I'd actually like to finesse the concept into a more finished piece but I doubt I will.  It's a lot of work and would take more time than I have these days.  Best to just close your eyes and imagine the dystopia of the not too distant future.  Vive la Revolution!

8 - Frazetta Tribute (cleaned up)

Here's a cleaned up Frazetta tribute.  I tried replacing the tigers in the original pic with my cats but I realized I really can't draw felines.  I'll have to work on that.

Frazetta, like many young nerdlings, was a huge artistic hero of mine when I was younger.  I had a small print of his of a woman riding a lizard but it's long gone.  I couldn't even find it online since the man has done so much work over the years.

I thought this would be a fun piece to do but it ended up being an exercise in frustration.  It's hard to work off of someone so talented.  In the end, I took my original sketch (below) and overlayed it with my own style in the finished piece.  I still haven't looked at the original since last week for fear of seeing all the mistakes I made.

Tribute to a master

Okay, so again I'm late posting, but for good reason other than trying to find employment, practise.  Plain and simple.

I hated when this subject ( Frank Frazetta ) was chosen as my strong suit isn't the human body, and we all know each wonderful piece he created had a figure in it.  So, to stay true to what he did, the body, I drew and drew until I was happy with the result, and here it is.  This, unlike the other images I said I would repost, will be cleaned up and posted again as I'm very satisfied with what I came up with.

My character is to appear cocky, hence the pose.  Leaning against a large boulder, spear in hand, and a smirk on his face.

At first, the heads on the sticks in the background were to contain more detail, eyes, mouth, etc. but I've opted to go for skulls which I will introduce in the clean version.

This was a great learning experience as it pushed me to draw outside of my comfort level.

Frazetta Tribute - Vince T

After trying a few different things, I ended up with this drawing, which my wife hast titled "InVincible". It is, of course, based on Frazetta's Conan the Adventurer, but with the head replaced with one that looks suspiciously like mine. (And now that I look at it a bit closer, the slave-girl doesn't look particularly happy about the situation. I guess she preferred the original.)

8 - Frazetta Tribute

Thought I should take my own advice and post up my rough for this week's drawing before I get too far behind. Hopefully will get a finished of this in a couple of days.

Some comic relief for our viewers

A good friend of mine knows that we're doing this blog and decided to send me this image which is awesome!  No one within 52scribbles created the drawing and I'm not sure who did it, but I give them two thumbs up for the amount of laughing I did.  I wanted to break up our work with a little comic relief.

I certainly get the message now.  Just draw it!

Gunslinger - rh

7 - Revolver Ocelot/Gunslinger

I love westerns so this was a joy to do.
There were a lot of elements in this drawing that I wasn't happy with.  Namely the jacket.  I really just started drawing lines without rhyme or reason to make it look flowing which is a bad habit of mine.  Drapery takes a lot of thought and planning for it to look good and I failed on both counts.
I also think I gave him too much of an elfin looking ears.  I think it's because I was watching Star Trek while doodling this.  Damn green blooded Vulcans.

On a lighter note, I was walking around downtown when I passed a young girl who had a on a sharp toothpick in her mouth.  When did this become socially acceptable again?  Anyway, that image resulted in the toothpick in my drawing.

The Austin Powers of Gunslingers!

What more can be said!  Bill

Holiday self-portrait-rough, again missing some elements

Although there are really no elements to the holidays in this rough sketch of myself, there will be, in the repost.  I do think I captured my appearance though, especially my hair and the type of shirt I wear!  Bill

Charlie's Angel-rough only, missing elements

I got the talking to by one of my collaborators about posting sketch work rather than finished pieces, and he is right.  The site is 52 Scribbles.  So in response to drawing a Charlie's Angel, here is my rough work with some missing elements (to come shortly).  I'll clean up her face and hair, add the components it's missing and will repost.  Bill
